I use Skype, Wechat (微信 ) or Telegram for this. You can choose to use the
video or the audio only function.
Each tutoring session is one hour but I always go for a bit
more than 1 hour, while still calling it an hour.
For this service, if you just have 1 or 2 sessions,
I will first give you a mock IELTS Speaking test in each session, using some of the
real, current topics. But if you prefer, we'll just do one
mock test on the first day only – it's your choice. After each mock test I will give you a
score, including the 4 sub-scores for Pronunciation, Grammar, Vocabulary and
Fluency/Coherence. I will correct most of your errors and I will give you
some general advice.
I might also give you a few model sentences that you could
use to answer some questions but that will not be the main idea of our
tutoring sessions. It's best for you to use your own ideas and sentences in
the real test.
Most of the time we will be going through some of the topics
and questions that are currently being used in the Speaking test, either Part 1 or
Part 2/3. These questions and your answers will be not be done under strict exam conditions
but in a more relaxed fashion. Again, I will give you
corrections and advice after your answers to the questions.
If possible, it is a very good idea for you to make an audio recording of
any tutoring session you have with me. Then you will be able to listen again
to my advice and corrections.
If you want to use the service for more than 2 or 3
sessions, we might add some extra activities to focus on and strengthen
your weak points, such as pronunciation or grammar.
If you have 9 lessons, you will get a tenth lesson for free.
This also applies for the next nine lessons you have, if you have that many,
and so on.
If you want to use the service for a long time (e.g. more than 10 sessions) in order to build up your spoken English more
generally, I suggest we use a textbook together because it takes a lot of time
for me to prepare lessons without a book or without using the current Speaking
test questions. Probably the most suitable book would
be the latest edition of Cambridge Grammar for IELTS, which is #23 on my
is more than just a grammar book.) Other possible books are Side by Side 3
or Side by Side 4. (Free copies of these books can be downloaded from the
internet but I haven't found free downloadable copies of the audio files for
The cost is (Australian) $40/hour, (which is about 190 RMB/hour).
You will need to pay me in advancebefore each
session, or, if you like, you can pay for several sessions in advance.
Paying by PayPal (to firstname.lastname@example.org) is the most
convenient way for me but if you don't have PayPal, you can also pay through
Wechat. But I use a friend in China to accept payments to me on Wechat
because my Wechat wallet is not yet fully activated.
If you cannot pay using either of those two services, you
could send a
bank transfer to my Australian bank account. But that is more expensive than
PayPal or Wechat, especially if you transfer a small amount of money.
My Skype ID is chris.green4976. My Wechat ID is
chrisgreen2015. (Please don't ask me to accept you if you have not paid. I
don't have time to chat for free.)
Send me an email at gelin3 at yahoo.com to check if I am
available, to get the Wechat address for payments, or my bank account details if you
need that information. I am flexible
about what time of day to do this but sometimes I am busy and cannot accept any
more students for a while.
