IELTS Speaking Test Questions ¨C Part 1
Return
to Part 1 Questions (May - Aug 2006)
Introduction
- A
major change of Part 1 topics (and therefore, questions) occurred after the
May 1 holiday in China. In addition, a major change in the way the test
questions for Parts 2 & 3 are chosen also occurred at this time. Some of the former
Part 2/3
topics remained but all of the
Part 1 topics and questions were changed. Almost certainly all the Part 1
questions will change again 4 months after this change, i.e., at the end of
August or the beginning of September. (There is a small possibility that this change
of Part 1 will take place just before the first test of August, that is,
after 3 months, not 4 months. However, all indications are that a new set of
Part
1 topics and questions will appear in the September 02 test.)
¡¡
- On
the other hand, it seems likely that Parts 2 &
3 will not undergo a partial change every three or four months. Instead, 3 or 4 of
the Part 2/3 topics are being changed after every test. Therefore, you should not be surprised to find new
Part 2/3 topics in each new test and you, yourself, should frequently check the internet bulletin boards,
especially as you get closer to your own test date.
¡¡
- In
the test, examiners choose 3 Part 1
topics, out of a total of 10 possible choices. One Part 2/3
topic card is chosen out of 15 or 20 possible choices.
¡¡
¡¡
- Originally,
I specified that these topics/questions apply to the IELTS test centres that are run by the Beijing
branch of the British Council. (The Beijing branch of the British Council
covers cities from Harbin to Xian to Changsha.) However, it now seems that all the test
centres throughout China are using the same questions.
¡¡
- Since
most of the information on these websites is written in Chinese, I first
translated the Chinese using an online translation website. This did not
result in very accurate translations. However, since I am a former IELTS
examiner, I am able to guess the most likely real words of the questions.
¡¡
- To
repeat: The
Part 1 questions listed below should remain constant until the first test of
September but don¡¯t be surprised to find sudden changes.
¡¡
- Note
that the questions marked with * are guesses at likely questions. The actual
questions (or topics in Part 3) have
not (yet) been found on the internet or the exact wording of the questions
is not yet known but these questions or topics are very possible.
¡¡
- These
lists of Recent Part 1Questions and Recent Parts 2/3 Questions will be revised and updated after each IELTS test.
(However, I sometimes don't have time to update these pages immediately
after each test.)
¡¡
- If
you know of any other topics or questions, please email this information to me at gelin3@yahoo.com.
